USA Taekwondo Final Championchips
The past weekend USA Taekwondo hosted the Final Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They call this tournament Finals because it is the last tournament in the competition season. It is a very long and treacherous process to get to compete in this competition. To go to Finals an athlete has to earn a medal at either the regional or national competitions that happened earlier this year. Just being able to get to go to Finals is a huge win, but a competition like this is an entirely new beast. At Finals the athletes are the best of the best, so to receive a medal at Finals means that an athlete is within the top 15 people in their division out of everyone in the country. Finals are also a pretty big deal because it is the final tournament an athlete has to medal at before than can go on to team trials where they compete to be on Team USA.
The matchups in both Sparring and Forms (Pommsae) for this competition were nothing short of greatness. The Sparring matches were impressive to say the least. Each fighter had such different styles that worked for them and it was enticing to see which fighters were able to compete at the highest level. As I watched I saw fighters throw some of the craziest kicks I've ever seen in pursuit of just three extra points. It was thrilling to watch.
The Poomsae competition was also wonderful. Watching the way that each athlete was moving with such precision was so impressive. Each monition was crisp, clean, and refined. The finest forms from all over the country were at this tournament.
USA Taekwondo does an amazing job on their social media when trying to promote tournaments. They use multiple logos across several different platforms to promote one event. They also do a great job of keeping the event in the media by posting many pictures and videos from the tournament after the tournament has past. It also boosts their engagement level because they post a video of a high level athlete getting a medal or preforming, then do a follow up post that advertises a training session with that athlete that you can sign up for. I think that USA Taekwondo has done an amazing job promoting this tournament and its athletes on social media.
